No; it was a specific problem with 2.5

Not surprising. PIO is sloooooooooow. It will hog your CPU/PCI bus long 
enough to give the USB controller a serious constipation problem.

Actually, it might be IDE. Maybe you can play a bit with the PCI latency 
settings, give the USB controller a higher priority (lower latency) on your 
PCI bus.
