No I was planning to use one with a USB interface.

I will have to look into that. Off hand do you know off or recommend a
cash drawer with a parallel port interface that works with Linux.
Originally when I inquired about the ones with a parallel port interface
I was told it was printer specific. If a printer was not being used
then I should go with a serial port one. However the current PC only
have a single onboard serial port. Instead of adding an addition serial
port I figured I would just use the USB ports.

Bottom line at this point I just need a cash drawer that I can use with
Linux. Or one that has Linux drivers, which I have yet to be able to
find. With regard to having to write a driver for a cash drawer. I am
not sure if using a serial or usb interface would make it harder or
easier?

It's for a night club. So at the front door and bars receipts are rare.
Most receipts are used for things that will be done via the back end
management software. It has been discussed and considered. However the
expense verse the use is not there. Maybe for the credit card aspect.
However we plan to use a pad to capture the signature, and most
customers are not concerned with a receipt. Since there is a reflection
of the charge on their card.

I would think so, but the manufacture said 120 days maybe. Others have
said it's not a trivial task. Then again I am not an expert in C. Much
less kernel level C. I was thinking about starting with the
usb-skeleton.c and working on from there.

It a APG Vasario USBProII

It's still on order and should have been here by now. Once it does I
will ASAP. Unless for some reason the option to use a different
interface presents itself.

A cash drawer that works with Linux is the last thing I need so I can
deploy the POS app. I figured I would have more problems with a touch
screen than a cash drawer. Very wrong on that one.
