Those particular messages aren't indicative of an error, despite their
appearance. (That's why you don't see them under 2.6; they've been
removed because they are pretty much useless.) It's quite likely they
have nothing at all to do with your recurring problem.

Under 2.6, try turning USB debugging on in your kernel configuration.
Load the uhci-hcd driver by hand, using the command
modprobe uhci-hcd debug=3
That will generate a lot of detailed debugging information in the system
log when something goes wrong. You'll be able to view it with dmesg (and
if your syslog daemon is set up to store kernel debug-level messages
you'll be able to see it there too). Post the information; maybe it will
help.
