Hi, everyone,

I am trying to get my new Sony DSC-p10 digital camera working on a RH 9
distro. I only found one article in the archives about this problem, Greg suggesting
that it should be ok with the 2.6 kernel. I have downloaded the test-11 version, compiled it,
and gotten it to boot (I am running that kernal now, as I write you), but the camera still
will not mount.

The camera shows up in /proc/bus/usb/devices. When I try
mount -t vfat /dev/sda /mnt/camera,
I get the following error:
/dev/sda is not a valid block device

I get the same error when I try to mount it from fstab, which has the
following entry:
/dev/sda /mnt/camera auto noauto,user 0 0

Same results when I try /dev/sda1 and /dev/sda2

Searching the archives did show that in many cases, one must modify the
"unusual devices.h" file. The reason for this seems to be that the unusual devices
macro takes an arguement indicating the highest product number for which
the rest of the code should apply. For some reason, the 2.4 kernel has 0x0210 as the highest
revision number, so any camera with rev number greater than this fails.

On the 2.6 kernel, however (at least the version I have), the high end is 0x0450. I checked in
/proc/bus/usb/devices, and this is the rev number for my camera. Thus (I am guessing) it should
be ok, and no modification of "unusual_devices.h" is required.

I thought that the problem might be that I use a memory stick pro, 256MB, but I get the same
failure with a standard memory stick (32MB).

Does anyone have any ideas?

Below I am attaching all of the outputs one is generally supposed to send with
help requests.

Thank you for your time and any help you might offer
