Tried it with 2.6.1 today. Sorry for the delay. 2.6.1 does _not_ panic,
but is rock solid, even with the test prog at nice -20, and doing loads of
other things, starting X, starting lots of terminals in quick succession,
etc...

The circumstances are not exactly identical as the AudioPhile USB
sound card does not behave the same way (but more of that elsewhere). I
will try with another USB device on the same hub tomorrow.
