In a quick glance, I don't see a problem. But make sure the driver is correctly intregrated into the build process, otherwise the hotplug tables will not get updated properly.

I found this in drivers/usb/core/usb.c (usb_register):
[...] The list of unattached * interfaces will be rescanned whenever a new driver is added, allowing * the new driver to attach to any recognized devices.
That is exactly what I am looking for. I just realized that the other usb serial devices do a usb_register in addition to the usb_serial_register. I now do that too and it works. Learned something again :-)
