Can anyone answer the question in the Subject: line? Is it just an historical relic?
I'm not aware of any completion handlers using the pt_regs argument. And handlers need not always be called from within an interrupt handler in any case; they can be invoked during a timer callback for instance. Given that the pt_regs doesn't contain any useful information, isn't guaranteed to be non-NULL, and isn't used anyway, why does it persist?
