utf8->ucs2 translation is a matter of three if's in a loop... I think
this is a good suggestion, utf-8 is kind of standard for Linux, unlike
ucs-2.

Ok, this problem solved, on others we more or less agree. Will you start
implementing autoconf() or I can help you?
