Hope this reaches the right group!
I noticed that in kernels 2.6.3 and 2.6.4 the usb-scanner driver which
was present in 2.6.1 has disappeared and thus my Epson 1260 scanner
(which worked fine until 2.6.1) stopped working.

Here are the image directories in the two versions of the kernel:

2.6.1:

  drwxrwxr-x 2 root wheel 4096 Mar 16 10:36 ./
  -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 16265 Mar 16 10:36 built-in.o
  -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 116 Mar 16 10:36 .built-in.o.cmd
  -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 16128 Mar 16 10:36 scanner.o
  -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 7871 Mar 16 10:36 .scanner.o.cmd
  -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 24527 Jan 8 23:00 microtek.c
  -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 13549 Jan 8 23:00 hpusbscsi.c
  -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 23966 Jan 8 22:59 mdc800.c
  -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 17969 Jan 8 22:59 scanner.h
  -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 39337 Jan 8 22:59 scanner.c
  -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 986 Jan 8 22:59 microtek.h
  -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 2458 Jan 8 22:59 hpusbscsi.h
  -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 1836 Jan 8 22:59 Kconfig
  -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 198 Jan 8 22:59 Makefile

2.6.4:

drwxrwxr-x 2 1046 1046 4096 Mar 31 11:37 ./
-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 1443 Feb 22 14:57 Kconfig
-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 159 Feb 22 14:57 Makefile
-rw-r--r-- 1 1046 1046 24527 Oct 25 11:45 microtek.c
-rw-r--r-- 1 1046 1046 13549 Oct 25 11:44 hpusbscsi.c
-rw-r--r-- 1 1046 1046 23966 Oct 25 11:43 mdc800.c
-rw-r--r-- 1 1046 1046 986 Oct 25 11:43 microtek.h
-rw-r--r-- 1 1046 1046 2458 Oct 25 11:42 hpusbscsi.h

Is there a simple way to use the scanner.h scanner.c
from 2.6.1 in the 2.6.4 build? Should I just copy over the
respective lines from .config (make menuconfig or make gconfig won't
work)?

I hope this will be corrected in 2.6.5!

Regards,
