The final version will probably end up pretty similar to that patch, and it will probably be accepted into the main kernel fairly soon. Along with it I posted a compatible version of the descriptor-parsing patch, the one that tries to accept invalid descriptor values. My guess is there won't be too many more updates to this part of the code for a while -- but my crystal ball has never worked very well!
