I'm no Mac guru. But I wonder if the Vipower technical people wouldn't be willing to share some of the information that went into programming that driver? Have you tried pursuing that path?
Yes, its a GeneSys supplied driver. They just OEM the whole kit and kaboodle.
I'm trying to get binutils cross compiled so I can at least use objdump to dump it. Failing that I have a mate with OSX who might be able to use objdump and gdb to dissasemble it for me when he gets back to Australia.
On another note, Vipower tech support got back to me on the issues with my adaptor and told me that they had received several complaints about this device, but all were resolved by upgrading to the latest windows service pack, or upgrading to windows XP.
I have politely asked them if they have a device that does not contain the devil spawn chipset that I might exchange mine with.. Fat chance but you gotta ask!
Since your device seems to have its own special data-dependent bug, you might find that the drive still wouldn't work even after installing the latest version of Windows with all the bells and whistles. On hearing that, Vipower might be willing to do more to help you.
Yup, thats the path I'm persuing.. Even to the point of installing Windows on another partition to prove the fault (ack, choke)
