Not really. It was mostly because I read the Debian people are getting ready to rip out all firmware related stuff from the kernel source. I thought that rather than someone having to go out and hack the source to get the camera to work, it would be nicer to just convert to this method. It's usability and "political correctness" more than anything else, I suppose.
