On 2 different boxes, I've now slogged though over 100 insertion cycles and it hasn't deadlocked. That's good enough for me to proclaim that it is working.
Thank you all so very much! I can now deploy the units with 2.6 and save an extra week of coding.
I since see that that patch is in 2.6.7-bk6, I will look forward to it's inclusion in 2.6.8.
