See http://www.linux-usb.org/gadget for really basic info about how to set it up, and anything about "usb-serial" (particularly its "generic" mode) for information about how you might use it from a Linux USB Host.

I understand some such products interoperate with MS-Windows
using MS-supplied drivers, but I don't know the details.
One person suggested that making the "g_serial" gadget driver
look like a CDC-ACM modem (with no dialout capability, just
the serial link mode) would solve much of that problem.
