Hey folks,

So I've run into something that may either have a quick fix, or give me that reason to start digging into USB driver code I've been looking for.

I have a new cell phone that a program called MultiSync (multisync.sf.net) can sync -- and Multisync supports bluetooth, usb, and IR. My phone has only been sync'd by other people using bluetooth. However, my machine doesn't have bluetooth or IR, so I bought a USB cable for it.

The interesting part is that the *cable* gets recognized as a USB device, but not the phone. When I plug in the cable I get:

Jul 18 13:03:15 rider kernel: usb 1-2: new full speed USB device using
  address 2

If I plug the phone into the cable I get nothing more.

Now multisync needs a port to connect to -- and no particular module is connecting to the device and binding it to a port such as /dev/ttyUSB1.

I tried a handful of modules but nothing would bind to it. So I'm wondering how hard it would be to get it to bind to a port with an existing module or new module, or if I'm completely thinking in the wrong direction.

Short of changing a few device IDs in the code per peoeple here I haven't really looked into linux's usb code, but ya gotta start somewhere, right?

For what it's worth I'm using a 2.6.7 kernel, and the phone is a Sony Ericsson T637 (which, in theory, should sync identically to the previous T616). The cable is called a DCU-11 USB Cable, also made by Sony Ericsson.

Thoughts, pointers, or telling me I'm completely turned around are all appreciated. Thanks.
