Great news!
I would still like to understand the causes of the problem. Can you tell me what application you were using to sync with the phone?--I would like to look at the source code. Is the app using ppp to connect with the phone, by any chance?
Nope, its using modem commands though -- i.e. ATZ, et. al.
In fact, you can find the Ericsson AT commands here:
http://nelson.monkey.org/~nelson/weblog/tech/phone/ericssonATCommands.html
The program is called "multisync" and its the IrMC plugin that talks to my phone, which is a Sony Ericsson T637 over a DCU-11 cable (which is the actual device the pl2303 driver talks to). Note that if you're looking for information on the T637 on the net, you'll want to search for T616 which is the previous generation, and an almost identical phone -- but the T637 has only been out about 4 weeks so the 'net has very little on the phone.
While I'm at it, I've run into another problem - after syncing A-F, I get a "transfer interrupted," and best I can tell it is because of this:
Jul 26 00:05:02 rider kernel: drivers/usb/serial/pl2303.c: pl2303_ioctl (0) cmd = 0x5401
Jul 26 00:05:02 rider kernel: drivers/usb/serial/pl2303.c: pl2303_ioctl not supported = 0x5401
Also, while I'm at it -- that small one-line patch I sent in -- did I need to send that directly to Greg or anything? Its a very trivial patch, but it'd be nice if I didn't have to fix that line in the next version of the kernel...
