I have not been able to use the device yet, but that's probably just me that is too stupid to set it up. First of all, I don't yet know how to setup hotplugging, since it's always just worked before.

Alan gave you a patch for the probe failing. As for the line above, that's already fixed in 2.6.9 (whenever it comes out). In the meantime, you can ignore the message, it's harmless.
