This shows the HID driver hangs when probing the keyboard device.  That's 
why /proc/bus/usb/devices becomes inaccessible -- the HID driver owns the 
device lock and can't release it, while your cat/grep process is waiting 
to acquire the lock.

It's possible this problem has been resolved in 2.6.9-current.  Have you 
tried using the latest kernel?
