I suspect that current (2.6) kernels would automatically
diagnose this as an IRQ problem ... as in, IRQs aren't
arriving at the controller.  I've certainly used a 1561
on 2.6 kernels before, but IRQ problems are likely just
issues with your Coldfire port.
