The only thing i think is redundant here is checking the return value of get/set_registers(). So far we don't care what "ret" is.
IMHO if get/set_registers() start returning errors it means something has gone quite wrong. Checking the value every time and potential restart of the call will make the driver a bit of a mess.
I mean more than it is now. :-)
