That is a good start. It will be nice to have a subversion number for every time you update your patch sets. e.g. like the mm patches layout. http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/akpm/patches/2.6/2.6.12-rc1/2.6.12-rc1-mm3/ So I don't have to look into the patches to figure out it has been updated. Of course, -usb1 comes to mind.
