Hello, Yes, the current disk in the caddie does require external power which is supplied using as PS/2 power feed cable. If the power is not supplied then the disk is completely unusable so there was adequate power to the device.
Please note that this device does work on the stock Mandrake 2.4.27 kernel. This device has worked since 2.4.19 when these SanLogic hubs were patched. Moreoever this caddie now works in 2.4 and Windows on exactly the same machine and hardware.
