Hi again Kyle!

in the middle of the mail there are some info that I forgot in the past mail..

Amon,
thanks for testing this driver on your device. Work is still
being done on it. Let me address a few of your issues below:

> Using USB Storage Device (32MB Memory Stick): > 1) device is recognized correctly when plugged in > before booting > or the first time it's plugged in > 2) when in condition of point 1) the device is > mounted correctly > and works perfectly > 3) regarding performance: > > bash-2.05# time dd if=/dev/sda1 of=/tmp/dump-32MB.bin bs=1M count=32 > 31+1 records in > 31+1 records out > > real 1m38.491s > user 0m0.020s > sys 0m1.960s > > which sounds very good to me! nice work! :-) > (BTW it is still a bit slower than the Philips one..)

We are currently implementing the ping pong functionality of the device.
Hopefully this will give a little better performance than what it
currently has. I don't know if it will as of yet be as good as the
Philips driver, but it should at least be better. By the way, how was
the performance with the Philips driver?

Here there are the results with the Philips driver: bash-2.05# time dd if=/dev/sda1 of=/tmp/dump-32MB.bin bs=1M count=32 31+1 records in 31+1 records out

real 0m49.102s
user 0m0.000s
sys 0m2.010s

well.. it's nearly twice faster! ;-)

The "Completion Code" you are seeing is an error code provided by the
device. In this case this value describes a DataUnderrun. I'm not sure
why this is occuring. As I continue to work on this driver, I'll keep
this in mind.

There are problems with connecting and disconnecting devices while their corresponding device drivers are loaded. That is actually better than what I have seen with some of our devices. The message "ATL retry CC = 0x5, bytes = 0, OUT/IN:2 retry_count = 8 at fn = 443e" is because the device is no longer connected to the bus. This has a completion code of 0x05, which means the device was not found. But it was detected as being gone from the bus. We have seen a problem where it never seems to be removed from the bus and the driver continually processes interrupts from trying to perform transfers and then receiving the 0x05 Completion Code. So many interrupts occur, the system can't get enough CPU time to process anything else.

Something similar also happen with the Philips one and HID only (the Memory Stick works does not
show this problem.. so maybe it's something that depends on the device driver too..)
After unplugging I get a neverending dump like this:

usb.c: USB disconnect on device 1362-hal-2 address 3
INTL CC = 0x5, bytes = 0, OUT:0 bitmap = 1 at fn = 5a6c, fn_rem =28fc

Yes, there are still some serious issues with this driver. We have seen
a few crashes over the past couple of days. Also, there seems to be an
issue with interrupt transfers. My currently plan of action is to:

1) Get the ping pong functionality working.
2) Fix the crashes we have seen.
3) Clean up other issues with the interrupt transfers
4) Fix problems with removing/adding devices to the bus.

I'll be sure to keep you updated with the progress of this driver. If
you guys happen to find any other problems, or fix any other issues,
please let me know. Also, I'll be on vacation at the end of this week
and the beginning of next week, so I won't be able to make any progress
during that period. Again, thanks for trying out this driver. The
information you have given me is valuable and I really appreciate it.

Thanks,
   Kyle

I'll continue to test this one and try to find something more to help you to solve those issues!

Best Regards,

Amon
