Switching to a 2.6 host isn't the only reason to try 2.6; another
one is just that it's got a more correct and functional USB stack.

I don't know, but that's much of why I asked whether 2.6 has the
same issue.  If it does, then both kernels need some bugfix.  If
not, then you can see what it's doing differently and backport
something relevant.
