I have a 4 disk USB/FW combo enclosure which I am trying to use in
either firewire or USB mode to support a 4 disk RAID-5 array. I had
some luck with USB but it flakes out under load.
So I updated my kernel to 2.6.11 and power up the enclosure and my
console display stops... the monitor goes into "no signal" mode. I
can get to the machine over the network.
At this point things are okay, I can set up partitions on the drives
and save them (which is better than with Firewire). But if I
try to mke2fs on any of the devices the machine freezes with no
messages to the console.
Am I using the wrong drivers? I am loading (in order):
- ohci_hcd
- ehci_hcd
- usb_storage
