You need the latest ALSA release (1.0.9b) for this.

To get the full USB 2.0 capabilities of this device, you need the CVS
version of ALSA and the 2.6.13 kernel (when it's released).

This is the old OSS driver, "audio".  To prevent it from loading before
snd-usb-audio, disable it in the kernel configuration, or add the line

audio

to the /etc/hotplug/blacklist file.
