These are completely different problems. They have nothing to do with usb-storage -- in fact, they occur before usb-storage gets involved. These errors indicate some sort of problem in the device itself. Cycling the power might be enough to fix it. It's a little surprising that you see them now and you didn't see them before. Did you change anything other than adding that one patch to usb-storage? Move USB cables around, or anything?
