Most people have no trouble.  But VIA's chips have strange behavior and 
the company hasn't provided much useful information about how to handle 
them.

All the Linux USB controller drivers are already built into the kernel
supplied by your Linux distribution.  You don't have to select anything or
install a new driver.

If you want to configure your own kernel instead of using the
configuration provided by your distribution, then in the USB Support part
of the configuration you will have to select "UHCI HCD (most Intel and
VIA) support".
