Why not just stick with the libusb version? And if you use the latest version of libusb, it will use the /dev/usb/ nodes found on the latest 2.6 kernel versions which makes it easier to set the proper user permissions. That will help you out from having to run the program as root. As a side note, your attachments made a whole lot of email servers puke messages back to the list admins.
