There doesn't appear to be anything wrong with the patch itself.  You and 
Pete will have to decide whether or not it's really necessary.

Did you run across any other sort of system besides the Dell 380 which 
can't use the OHCI/EHCI handoff?  Were there any that didn't like the UHCI 
handoff?

Were there any that haven't since been fixed by a BIOS update?
