It's not at all obvious what the problem is. It would help to have a USB trace showing the new Pad working correctly. I don't know if the 2.6.15 version of usbmon is capable of doing that, but it's worth a try. Otherwise you could use a USB sniffer program for Windows to get the equivalent data.
