It caused trouble during STR for Linus' MiniMac.  (Though I've heard
from other folk that their MiniMacs don't suspend at all, so it's not
quite clear what's goin on there...)

Since the ACPI folk have been unresponsive to the "STR doesn't work
on any of my hardware" bugs, I've been unable to observe any such issue
on hardware I have access to.

No idea.  It certainly helped at least some systems to work a lot
more robustly.  I wouldn't expect one patch to solve "all" the
outstanding issues in any case ... like the VIA hardware issuing
overcurrent indications seemingly without cause on some systems.
