Just to clarify: it's not "stale testing code". The "testing" comment I made must have been misunderstood. It's the only version that _I_ have tested with any degree of thoroughness ... though that was back a few releases, and some of the relevant usbcore code has changed substantially since then. The tradeoff was between two approaches, one of which involved much more testing effort than the other.
