Well, Linus's GIT tree contains _some_ of the "obviously right" bug fixes, 
and the -mm tree contains bug fixes plus experimental changes.  Pay your 
money and take your choice.

I tend to do my own development using Greg KH's patch set:

http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/gregkh/gregkh-2.6/gregkh-all-...

which goes on top of a recent Linus kernel.
