Ok, this is a new  laptop which came with WinXP installed. I have no
way to figure out whether WinXP had errors with the same usb
controller, but I didn't see any visible errors.

I then installed fedora core 6 on this laptop. The same problem
happened with the stock kernel (2.6.18-1.2868). I then installed
'2.6.19.1' on this box & the problem exists.

If you suspect the hardware might be buggy, do you think there is some
way to isolate the
issue?
