Hi there, I'm writing to the list on request of one of the DVB driver developers, who is seeking some advice on possible causes of a "USB disconnects".
The issue is that I see USB disconnects for a DVB Tuner card that is a PCI card that implements a USB hub with 2 DVB tuners attached. Due to the lack of hotplug support in the dvb-core this causes Oops'. The oops' are a separate issue. What we want to understand is why the disconnections are occurring in the first place. Given that this device is plugged into the PCI bus, the disconnects are not caused by me physically unplugging the device. It would be good to understand if this is a problem with the device or with the USB layer. Here's a sample of the logs that I see when this occurs. usb 5-1: USB disconnect, address 2 mt2060 I2C write failed mt2060 I2C write failed dvb-usb: Hauppauge Nova-T 500 Dual DVB-T successfully deinitialized and disconnected. usb 5-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 3 usb 5-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice ... There are no errors proceeding the disconnection that would indicate the cause of the problems. I was originally running an Ubuntu kernel 2.6.20-4-generic (which doesn't directly map to an RC, but I believe it was built from between rc3 and rc4). Running this kernel the "USB Disconnects" occurred very frequently ... probably daily. There were some reports that 2.6.20 rc5 improved the behavior, so I upgraded. After the upgrade, the behavior improved significantly. After a week running rc5, I've only had a single occurrence of the disconnect. So some changes in this time-frame made some dramatically improvements. So I'm not sure whether these disconnects are the fault of the hardware or the USB layer, but I'd like to help track it down. Is there anything that I can do to help track down the cause of the disconnections? Can I enable some debugging that might help track down these issues? Or run a difference kernel, etc. Any ideas would be appreciated. Regards, Matt ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Using Tomcat but need to do more?
