Basically just add a Signed-off-by: line(s) to the patch, denoting you or other people, who sign this patch as their work. Most keyboards, for example, are also "Generic Desktop" (i.e. their report descriptor starts with bytes 0x05 0x01). And keyboards indeed _are_ thing that should be picked by hid-input.
