I've got my hands on a USB GPS "bit sampler". I'm quite familiar with
the GPS side of things, but could use some help getting the data out of
this thing via the USB interface. In theory, it should just send a
steady stream of bits that are sampled in real-time. Please understand
this it going to be a LOT of data, probably on the edge of USB 2.0
capability. It's the raw intermediate frequency sampled at somewhere
around 5MHz. Also, since it's not a device I'm going to use in the
kernel, I'd prefer using the libusb. However, if I need to do
isochronous transfers, which might be the right choice for this type of
device, I get the impression I have to do a kernel device driver.
I've attached a file that's the verbose output of "lsusb" for this
device. You'll notice there are three different Alternate settings, so
I'm not sure which one to use.
I believe I can get my hands on the Windows driver for this thing if
that would help, but it would likely be w/o source code.
Would that still be helpful?
I would just like to "record" some data into a file and then process it
separately with a program that actually does the correlation, decodes
the pseudo-ranges and solves for a position/velocity/time solution. The
program that does this is in SourceForge under the project name "OSGPS"
(for open-source GPS).
Anything I write for this device would also be released as Free Software.
Thanks for any help you can lend,
Rick Niles.
