I'm running 2 6 22-rc7-cfs-v18 on the FC6 box. And I cannot find any references to a libata in a make xconfig. Also, if I 'locate libata' and filter to this kernel: /usr/src/linux-2.6.22-rc7-cfs-v18/Documentation/DocBook/libata.tmpl /usr/src/linux-2.6.22-rc7-cfs-v18/drivers/ata/libata-acpi.c /usr/src/linux-2.6.22-rc7-cfs-v18/drivers/ata/libata-core.c /usr/src/linux-2.6.22-rc7-cfs-v18/drivers/ata/libata-eh.c /usr/src/linux-2.6.22-rc7-cfs-v18/drivers/ata/libata-scsi.c /usr/src/linux-2.6.22-rc7-cfs-v18/drivers/ata/libata-sff.c /usr/src/linux-2.6.22-rc7-cfs-v18/drivers/ata/libata.h /usr/src/linux-2.6.22-rc7-cfs-v18/include/asm-generic/libata-portmap.h /usr/src/linux-2.6.22-rc7-cfs-v18/include/asm-ia64/libata-portmap.h /usr/src/linux-2.6.22-rc7-cfs-v18/include/asm-powerpc/libata-portmap.h /usr/src/linux-2.6.22-rc7-cfs-v18/include/linux/libata.h That doesn't look as if its being built. It is present in the lib/modules path for the distribution kernels though: /lib/modules/2.6.20-1.2948.fc6/kernel/drivers/ata/libata.ko /lib/modules/2.6.20-1.2952.fc6/kernel/drivers/ata/libata.ko /lib/modules/2.6.20-1.2962.fc6/kernel/drivers/ata/libata.ko However when booted to 2.6.20-1.2962, that part still doesn't work. If this device is plugged into the lappy at powerup time the bios scan finds it and the post continues unaffected. If this device is plugged into ANY usb port, root or hub, this box won't even post till it is unplugged, at which point the post continues normally. That points to a bios difference also. Unforch, biostars web pages are under reconstruction so I can't check for bios updates there. I've emailed the webmaster, but no reply as yet. >> Also the lsusb -v for that device shows a MaxPower of 100ma, exactly the >> same as it says on the big box.
