The error occurs only if the modules are loaded _before_
the external modem is plugged in.  When I load the modules
_after_ plugging in the modem, I get the kernel oops message
when unloading.

In a previous message, I stated that this was not the case,
but since I am doing several things at once in addition to
patching, compiling and testing, I may have misunderstood my
own actions.  But now it's certain.  I've reproduced it several
times.
