OS: SuSE 7.1 w/kernel 2.4.0
Hardware: VST CD-R/W portable USB drive http://www.vsttech.com/

With Freecom support included in usb-storage, itcan be mounted briefly as
a cdrom. I can read directories and small files. But on larger files,
the command reading the drive (less, cp, etc.) becomes an unkillable
daemon in a race condition that can eventually choke the system. cdrdao
can read disk-info, but hangs in read-toc. Likewise, attempting a dummy
write with cdrdao simulate or cdrecord -dummy prepares to write,
fills the buffer, and then locks up (either /dev/sg# or bus,id,lun).

When I set up usbmgr to automatically hot plug the modules,
/var/log/messages listed these:

usbmgr[276]: "scsi_mod" was loaded
usbmgr[276]: "sr_mod" was loaded
usbmgr[276]: "sg" was loaded
usbmgr[276]: "usb-storage" was loaded
usbmgr[276]: "5ms" was loaded

What is "5ms" and am I missing it?

System: Sony PCG-F450 PIII 500, 192 MB RAM
  Bus 0, device 7, function 2:
USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82371AB PIIX4 USB (rev 1).
Wasn't sure if I should use usb-uhci or uhci, but either does the same.

including usb-storage debug logs. Anyone have any more success?
