The driver for the 8230e isn't quite ready for prime time. A kernel
patch made the rounds a while back that got it working for me, but
you've got to re-compile the kernel to make use of it. I'd send you a
copy but I've misplaced it... hopefully someone with better archiving
practices will have it for you. If not, I can generate a new patch
for you, against kernel version 2.4.2.
I'm still booting into windows to burn CDs until the developers get
the modifications into the mainstream kernel. I make cd images with
mkisofs, and then burn them with Adaptec's easy-CD software, so I've
got the functionality. It just takes a bit more effort.
