The linux rio driver only recognises the rio 500:

You need to add these product and vendor id's to the rio500 driver for it to
recognise the 600, Nathan Hjelm had a website with a patch, but it's
dissappeared and i never saved a copy!

I'm not sure where in the linux kernel sources the rio500 driver is, but
iirc the bit you need to change is near the end of the file.
