Hi everybody. I have HP LaserJet 2200d printer and I can't get it to print anything through usb in my Debian linux with kernel 2.4.4 . Kernel is compiled with usb support and recognizes the printer immediately after I plug-in the cable. Using lsusb or usbview there apears to be no problem. There is no problem with usb in the proc fs and also the devices /dev/usb/lp? should be correct (all done following the USB Guide). BUT the printer doesn't print anything. Sending anything to /dev/usb/lp0 does nothing. No error message, no printing. On the computer side, everything seems to be allright. Under Win98 there are no problems with printing using usb so I printed something into file and then sent it to /dev/usb/lp0 under linux, but still nothing. Printig using paralell port under linux works fine. In the FAQ at www.linux-usb.org there is something about epson printers not printing anythibg before set of special characters was sent to the printer for it to use the usb interface, but I didn't find anything about hp2200 anywhere.
