I have a French version of the Draytek miniVigor 128 USB "modem" that is
supposed to be able to work under Linux. Draytek provides a driver for it in
an rpm, which loads with insmod -f (although it sends a message that it was
compiled for kernel 2.4.0 and that my kernel is 2.4.3smp). But when I follow
Draytek's instructions, which say to create a symbolic link from dev/ttyUSB0
to dev/modem, the K dialer can't query the modem (message: "Sorry, can't
open modem").

The device shows up in proc/dev/bus/usb/devices, however, under its French
name, but with driver=(none) next to it. The driver shows up in
proc/dev/bus/usb/drivers, too, as miniVigor, though its name in its home
directory (which is lib/modules/draytek) is "m128."

The driver seems to work by loading itself at boot time using that insmod -f
command. Is the order in which it loads important? Or am I wasting my time
unless I have the exact kernel the driver was compiled for?

I have seen in a post somewhere that the acm.o driver can be used for USB
modems. I have tried loading acm and then hot-plugging the modem as was
suggested, but this does not result in the acm driver beng assigned to the
modem in proc/dev/bus/usb/devices.

I realize I have probably left out essential information. Please let me know
what you need to know.

Thanks in advance for any help.
Joe
