Thanks for answering.

>Does this modem not work with the extant 2.4.4 drivers?

Do you mean some generic driver? *Please tell me where I can find these.*
I'm
willing to try anything.

I have asked the vendor to supply the source - he won't -, and to compile a
version for my kernel, and he says he'll take the request under
consideration.

The modem is a Draytek miniVigor 128, sold in France as Djinn Numéris USB.
The French name is what shows up in proc/bus/usb/devices (but with
driver=(none) next to it), and that's where I got the vendor and product
IDs. The maker, Draytek, has drivers
specifically compiled for kernel 2.2.16 and 2.4.0, and when I insmod the
module, I get the following message:
Warning: kernel-module version mismatch
/lib/modules/draytek/m128 was compiled for kernel version 2.4.0
while this kernel is version 2.4.3-20mdksmp

> 2.  Why are you trying to force the vendor and product IDs?

Since the modem's internal info has a specific vendor name. The local
distributor, by the way, says that this modem won't run under Linux, but I
know for a fact that it's been done. I just can't get anybody here to tell
me how. The French reseller doesn't develop any drivers, they rely on
Draytek.

>Why are you using
> insmod at all?

That's how the module normally loads. When the module is installed from the
rpm, it creates a call to
insmod -f /lib/modules/draytek/m128 during initialization.

I'm sorry, but I need a little help there. *Where do I look in the modprobe
man?*

I was unable to get any output from modinfo. I do have the output from
insmod -m. I'll attach that if you want to take a look. Thanks very much and
let me know where I might get further help. I've already been to several
newsgroups with this.

Thanks very much
Joe
