I'm having trouble connecting my ViPowER USB mobile rack
device to my RedHat 7.1 system, running kernel 2.4.5. I've also
installed the latest hotplug scripts, although I get this same
problem with an out-of-the-box RH7.1 system.
I've compiled USB support and SCSI emulation into the kernel,
mounted usbdevfs, and compiled all SCSI drivers as modules.
I've ensured that the IDE drive I'm using is OK and
normally mountable in my IDE device chain.
I also have a USB audio device which works just fine.
When I plug in the device and power it on I get these messages:

kernel: hub.c: USB new device connect on bus1/2, assigned device number 4
kernel: Manufacturer: ViPowER USB2IDE
kernel: Product: ViPowER USB2IDE
kernel: scsi1 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices

...and then *everything* freezes and I have to reboot.
My machine (a Compaq Proliant DL320) doesn't have a SCSI
card in it. Do I really need one? Do I need to specifically load
a certain SCSI module? Help!
