Yes, I saw that message. Didn't understand it but saw it.
It's quite easy to reproduce. I just try to copy a relatively large directory
(maybe around 50M) to the USB hard drive. Sometimes it hangs on the first file,
sometimes the fifth, and so on. I can actually mount the drive, format it, check
for bad blocks and read from it with no problem. When I try to write a bunch of
stuff to it, however, hangs inevitably occur.
The strange thing is I've tried this on two different computers, both running
2.4.5 and the usb-uhci driver. One is a laptop and one is a desktop. Same
problem.
I only have the 6G drive in my archos and am plugging it directly into the
USB port on the computer. No hub involved. My laptop is an HP N3478 using an AMD
K6-III 550MHz. My desktop machine is a PII-450. Not sure what type of USB
controllers are in these things. As far as I can tell from the /proc directory,
my laptop uses a VIA UHCI USB controller and my desktop uses an Intel 82371AB
PIIX4 USB controller.
My laptop has no other USB or SCSI devices connected. My desktop has a
USB scanner and SCSI Zip drive attached.
I have no problem changing some code and trying to help you debug this. Just let
