Thanks for your response. I've attached my bootup dmesg log, and the .config i
use. As you can see from the log - I'm using /dev/vg00/lvol1 as my root fs at
the moment, so I could actually get a system booted.

You can see that the hard disk gets detected after my initial ramdisk has run
and mounted the real root.

Have you any idea what would trigger the detection of the USB device? I would
have thought it should have been detected around line 82 of the boot log, then
it would have been ready to be mounted as root.
