I think that you have missed something critical about the little "dongle" thing that came with your keyboard. It is not an electrical and protocol adapter - it just does physical interface for the connector and signals the keyboard to go into USB mode. You will need a proper adapter. It doesn't matter what pins you short together or open circuit, a PS/2 trackball is not a USB device.
